You are Magnificent! (Please try this at home)
Here's the positive, painless, and pragmatic exercise we all need...
When I was catching up on one of my favorite podcasts last month the hosts discussed this sweet idea as part of their new year resolutions. Instead of focusing on constantly striving to perfect yourself based on the numerous arbitrary measurements you find in the world, make mastering complete self-acceptance with who you are and where you are in the present your goal.
They included a simple exercise I’ve been practicing at home and think you’ll enjoy, too. Here’s how it works: when you catch yourself in the mirror, either at home or when you’re out and about, give yourself little smile and say, “You are magnificent,” (either in your head or out loud depending on where you are), and then continue about your day. Ta-da - that’s it!
I know this might sound a little, “just think positive-y,” but I consider it more of a reframe and a great reminder. Your own magnificence is innate, no matter where you are or what you’re working on. You don’t have to achieve anything to be worthy of everything. Reminding yourself of this is, I believe, good practice. In fact, this exercise might be a great addition to The Mindset Gym. Add it to your catalogue of daily “workouts” that will keep your mindset strong and solid as you move through life.
What I especially love about this exercise is how it stresses the importance of self-acceptance in the present. I’d never want you to look in the mirror and say, “you’ll be magnificent when…”, it’s all about right now. When I coach, I’m always reminding my clients to find meaning and fulfillment in their lives, to feel good about who they are today and who they’re becoming tomorrow. I help them set their own goalposts, define what “enjoying life” means to them, and work to close the gaps that might exist between where they are and where they want to be. I never, ever come in with an agenda of what they “should” want or what they “should” achieve. Perfection is a fallacy, the goal is always more ease and joy, living with more flow, being happy with your present and excited for your future.
Having coached many people over the years, and being my own work in progress, I know that self-acceptance along the journey can be difficult. It’s much easier to point to an ideal scenario and say, “I’ll feel magnificent when I’ve achieved perfection as indicated by all these things finally being in place.” Being happy with yourself and your current situation is hard when you’re wanting more out of life. This is where self-acceptance is essential, because it gives you permission to be who are right now, enjoy your day-to-day, while still working towards the new reality you seek.
I hope this little exercise helps you feel good about yourself no matter where you are right now. We’re all magnificent creatures! Please speak this to yourself whenever you need the reminder. Know your worth, dream bigger for yourself, and take action toward what you seek. Embrace your self sovereignty; you can always make your life what you want it to be. Trust yourself.

So, we’re not increasing the long form letters like this one, but we’re going to add in some supplements during the interim weeks. Sound good? I hope you enjoy it!
