Practical Magic is Always Available to You
Knowing what it is, understanding how to harness it, using it for the greater good...

Let me start by wishing you a happy peak practical magic season! I couldn’t let the month wrap up without my annual newsletter about magic. As my clients know, I crow incessantly about harnessing the magic of the Universe and using it to shape your life. I’ve gotten more than a few eye rolls through the years, but it doesn’t bother me one bit, everyone comes around eventually.
Practical Magic is the name of one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s also the name of the third book, in a four book series, I highly recommend, written by Alice Hoffman. It’s also, most importantly, the term I use for creating a life you love using tools you have or can access, while accepting the help of the Universal magic when it comes your way.
As a reminder, anyone can access magic. You don’t need any accessories like crystals, spells, herbs, cauldrons, or the lot. All you need is the ability to remain open to possibilities and the willingness to look for what your eyes can’t see.
If someone insists upon a spell I always remind them of the one that always works: Belief + Action = Magic. That’s it. That’s all you need.
Every year I write a newsletter about this because I think the topic necessitates revisiting. When you don’t believe that what you’re seeking is available to you, you will never find it. Despite how messed up the world seems right now; we mustn’t let go of our belief that we live in a benevolent Universe. We can always work toward more peace, understanding, and love in our own lives and the lives of others.
The key to magic is you. It’s your belief in whatever you write down or think about, it’s taking the action, and knowing how to read the signs. We’re always being directed to what’s best for us, so long as we act with integrity and initiate the action in the direction we want to go. And, as I’ve mentioned before, “moving forward” isn’t about climbing to the top of some ratings scale or mountain of peak achievement, it’s simply about creating the life that feels easeful, joyful and fulfilling - magical, basically - to you.

The tricky part of bringing up magic is that a lot of people have a hard time believing in the unseen and that they’re worthy of the unseen supporting their lives. I’m here to promise that it’s there, and you are worthy. Never stop leveraging the Universe and harnessing the magic to create the life you want. When we focus on creating good for ourselves, we bring more of it into the world and there’s more to go around.
Have a magical day, friends, it’s a good day for sending rushes of good thoughts out into the world and practice reading the signs. This does require heightening your senses and being more aware of life around you. It’s not hard but can take some practice. (If you ever receive something you don’t know how to interpret simply reply and I’ll try to help you out!) Believe in the magic because it’s there for you whenever you need it. Trust yourself.
WORKSHOPS
HOW TO READ SIGNS 101: One of my favorite topics! You are always being sent signs, but not everything is a sign, and remember to ask for signs when you want them. Clear as mud, right?! But, really, signs are around us all the time. This is my beginner’s guide to signs to start you on your journey.
READING: Some Substack reading I highly recommend…
November Tarot & Astrology from Jessica Adams: For those who use astrology and are tarot-curious, this is the monthly newsletter for you. (I have a stellium in Scorpio so I’m studying November extra carefully right now!)
Finding Ourselves on the Spiral by Elise Loehnen: Holy cr*p, this blew my mind. It’s a long read but the concept is fascinating. How can we finally make the leap we clearly need to?
The Healer and The Healed by Garance Doré: Knowing when you’ve outgrown what you once needed. It’s a special feeling. (And, wow, the price of that massage!!!)
Quit Being Influenced by Jo Piazza: Strong views on influencers are nothing new. This came out on the heels of my newsletter regarding why I left that community; I couldn’t see myself enjoying the world it was becoming. This post and podcast presents an interesting perspective to consider.
☀️☀️☀️ In case you missed it, I’ve started a monthly souvenirs newsletter and Q&A for subscribers only. Next one goes out tomorrow!
☀️☀️☀️☀️ I spent four years in college in Lewiston, Maine. I’m so sickened and saddened by the violence last week. Thankfully, all the college students are safe, however, two employees were affected. If you’re interested in helping the people of Lewiston, here are some ways to do so: Lewiston Help.
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ In December I’ll have a LIVE ticketed event on December 6th in New Canaan, CT to present a workshop in conjunction with Jane Beiles and her new organizer book, 52 Weeks. I’ll include more details when I have them.
