I’ve created this space for the guidance I teach in my group workshops and 1:1 client work. My intention is to share simple concepts, in an inviting and practical way, that will help you shape the life you envision. I also include exercises to show you how to apply it to your life right away, because the mechanics are very important.
You’re never stuck in your current story, even when you think you are. Your life can be meaningful and fulfilling; you’re meant to live happily and with ease. It’s my mission to empower you with this truth.
I’m not as thrilled with the Substack video as I thought I’d be, so I’m back to writing workshops for the time being. I hope to work out a better format for you all soon!
Rest is an essential part of our wellbeing and this is a good time of year to talk about it. Rest can be hard to define when we’re all leading somewhat busy lives. Does rest mean we are carving more time out for ourselves than normal? Or, truly taking time off? Going to bed earlier in the evenings? What would rest look like to you? I think rest can be any one of those things, but at it’s core it means you’re giving yourself a break before you end up anywhere near burnout.
I think of January as a month that invites more rest because the days are shorter, the holidays are over, and there’s a little less on the calendar. Instead of filling this extra time up with more to-do’s, I hope, instead, you’re leaving it blank to spend a little more time on what you love.
Embracing rest is a whole other matter, however. A lot of us can get caught in the trap of adding more to our plate when we have free time, piling it on in the name of being productive. I’ve been caught in this trap many times when, in reality, I should have been closing my computer and putting down my pen. Free time doesn’t always needs to be filled, taking time to let your mind wander is productive, too.
Today’s workshop is just a little way to remind yourself to embrace rest. Don’t be afraid let yourself take a break when you need it, or just because you want it. Rest is nourishment. It’s healthy and necessary. Also, when you rest you give the Universe free time to work it’s magic…and you definitely always want to leave room for that!
WORKSHOP
Embracing rest is essential, but it isn’t always easy. Here are some ways to hold yourself accountable for allowing yourself to rest when you need it and/or want it.
Be honest about yourself the time you have available in one day. If there is “free” time, how do you want to use it?
If you know you need to rest, but feel you can’t, ask yourself why. Are you being driven to do something, or are you simply resisting stillness?
What are your favorite forms of rest? How can you incorporate more of this into your daily life?
Allowing rest is healthy. Taking a rest when you need it will not compromise your probability of success. Pace yourself and give yourself a break. It’s something you’ll never regret!
